Charged with designing a Farm-to-Table Restaurant in Old North Knoxville, I began my design process with site research and diagramming. Investigating the surrounding neighborhoods and amenities allowed me to understand who I was designing this restaurant for, and what was important to them. I did not want my restaurant to become estranged from the site, but rather to belong to the area, and become a "third place" for guests.
The site is located off of Central Avenue, as part of a larger U shaped group of buildings. The specific site building is shown in the sight lines diagram.
I chose to diagram light, material connections, and sight lines, in order to better identify and understand the environmental, material, and socio-economic factors around the site.
